A day at Carleton Farm 2012

Background

Found a Groupon coupon to Carleton Farm for 16 dollars.

$16 for a package for a family of four to the day corn maze (a $32 value). Each package includes two adult tickets, two children's tickets, and two children's admissions to the play area.
This package is actually cheaper than last year:

For $15, you get a package for a family of four to the day corn maze (a $32 value).
However, because I have 3 kids, I need to pay an extra $9.50 ($5 for kids play area and $4.5 for the corn maze) for one of the kids.  Hopefully, next year, the deal can better accommdate family with more than 2 kids.

Getting there is pretty straightward, we just followed the direction from my Windows 7 phone's map application.

The Farm

Today (29th Sept 2012) is the first day of the autumn event.  The farm wasn't as crowded as last year and the weather is just perfect(not too cold or warm).  What a great day at the farm!

Trivia Corn Maze

The free Hayride is a fun way to get the corn maze.  You don’t have to take the wagon to the field (everything is within walking distance), but it’s a nice way to get around.

We spent almost 2 hours in the corn maze and we found all 14 check points.  The maze itself should be relatively easy for the adults to navigate but we let the kids explored and we went round and round back to to the same check points again and again.  Ok...  at some points, we did drop some hints on which turns to make so that we can get things moving a little.

Daily 10 AM to 5 PM. Last ticket sold at 5 PM to allow enough time to go through the maze.  Go “Hog Wild” in this year’s corn maze, a fun test of navigation and trivia for the whole family. See aerial view on the Corn Maze page.

Pumpkins

A field full of pumpkins of all sizes to choose from.  Their vein has been pre-cut so it is a choose and carry exercise.
Pick your own pumpkin from the vine. Wheel barrels provided. More information on the Pumpkin Patch page.

Kids Korral

Outdoor play area with zip swing, hay mountain, farm house and mazes. The three tube slides are even fun for adults (we've tested them many times)

Animals Farm

One thing I realised is that farm aniamls never failed to grab city kids attention.  The kids bought some feeds and spent quite a lot of time slowing feeding each animals.  The animals seem tame but you can see us reminding the kids constantly to have their little hands outside the cages.

Our farm animals love company this time of year - we think because of all the treats they get. Coo at the peacocks, pet the sheep and talk philosophy with the goats (just no politics).

Kids Barn

This is one of the several attractions on the farms that my kids really love.  We spent more than an hour here.  They really love burying themselves in the corn grain.  Remember to bring extra clothing since they are pretty dusty after having all these fun and may not want to bring these dust into your vehicle.

The barn is fully enclosed and protected from the weather. Hide and seek in the hay maze. Bury yourself in grain. Swing on a rope and slide down the tube slide

Pumpkin Cannon

We love watching people firing off their pumpkins.  Maybe we will do it next year....
A wallop of air hurls pumpkins across the farm. Pick your pumpkin then pick your cannon. We have two!. This is a favorite even the ‘kids’ over 30.
Small = $2,    Large = $3

Kids Pony Express Train

Not aware that we need to pay for the train ride, we did not buy the tickets at the ticket booth prior.  We had the option to pay on the spot to the driver but nowsaday, who is still carry cash?  We walked back to the farm with the intention of buying the ticket but the kids found the next attraction and we just move forward with our activities.
Pick a pony and take a ride around the farm. Our pony train is pulled by a real farm tractor. Kids can ride alone or with an adult if they are 3 and under (It’s a little tight, but do-able).

Weekends only starting at 11 AM.  $3 per child
